The Case for Christian Unity - A Divine Imperative
Whilst most Christians probably think that Christian Unity is a “good thing” (if they think about it at all) the case for unity seems to have been overshadowed by what might be called the “feel-good factor” of people working well together at local levels - without considering why the divided churches really should be working for unity.
This weekend we want to explore the scriptural basis for unity and try to understand how, despite Jesus’s clear direction that we “should be one”, the Church has done the opposite. We hope to hear about the ecclesial case for unity. Why do the churches “keep at it”? If it’s not working, why not - and what can be done? We will also consider how we can make the case for unity at the local, Churches Together, level: how can we go beyond “just” working well together on issues such as social justice? Can unity happen from the bottom up if the institutional churches disagree on doctrine?
We currently have two confirmed speakers and hope to have a third, Anglican, speaker.
Following the success of the trial at last year’s gathering, the sessions and worship will be broadcast simultaneously on Zoom to allow people to participate on-line. Booking for the “on-line only” event can be made via the website.
