Monitoring Ecumenical Developments

One aspect of our threefold mission at the Association of Interchurch Families is to be a Voice in the Churches speaking on behalf of interchurch couples in the UK.

As an organisation we can only be an effective voice in the church if we are aware of developments and changes in those churches. We therefore keep abreast of developments in both the guidance relating directly to the pastoral care of interchurch couples and also in the ecumenical work of the different denominations.

"You live in your marriage the hopes and the difficulties of the path to Christian Unity."
    Saint John Paul II

We carry out this aspect of our mission by:

    • Being an active “Body in Association” with both Churches Together in England and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland.
    • Seeking opportunities to contribute to dialogues between the churches such as the English and Welsh Anglican and Roman Catholic Committee (EWARC) .
    • Attending national and international events such as World Council of Churches Assemblies and the regular international conferences on Receptive Ecumenism.
    • Keeping up to date with changes in the guidance issued by the churches relating to both marriage and family issues and ecumenical matters.
    • Responding directly to papers and guidance issued by the churches.
    • Contributing to consultations and surveys when possible.

Please see below links to some recent papers relating to current ecumenical discussions and responses to these papers by AIF members.

    • Input by the Interchurch Families International Network to inform the preparatory documents for the Catholic Bishops’ 2015 Synod on the Family.

    • Others…..
